Ah, digital alchemy. Mixing blending and tweaking various bits of software until you make the impossible possible. Restoring my PDF thumbnails wasn't a fun task, but a combination of SageThumbs 2.0.0.17, GhostScript 8.54 x32, GhostScript 8.54 x64 and PDF-XChange Viewer 214.1 did the trick. Another bugbear is laid to rest.
